Carpenters Estate Study Tour

Step out of your office and into one of London’s most ambitious regeneration projects. This walking tour, hosted by Populo Living and led by broadcaster and housing expert Kunle Barker, offers a chance to see the 1960s Carpenters Estate transformation first hand.
Over the next 12 years Newham Council and Populo Living will deliver 2,300 homes with half at social rent alongside a new school, green spaces and community facilities that set a new benchmark for equitable estate regeneration.
The community-informed Masterplan is delivering a range of projects, including the innovative and legacy-focused Meanwhile Projects Strategy and the Passivhaus EnerPHit retrofit of the 22-storey James Riley Point. This is set to deliver healthier and more affordable homes while cutting carbon, as well as new community hubs, school development and plans for landmark refurbishments.
Along the way, hear directly from the project team about the design, challenges and social impact of this pioneering regeneration, and the Community Wealth Building that underpins the work. Please ensure you wear comfortable shoes and bring rain gear for the walk.
The tour will then conclude with refreshments where you’ll have time to network and continue the conversation.
This Study Tour is open to all attending Housing Week, London, however you must be registered to attend one of the events across the week.
