Design Future London workshop

Mayor of London and George Clarke Design Future London workshop

Wednesday 24 November, 10:00-13:00

We are delighted to announce that HOMES UK will host a workshop this November in the NEW Unlock Net Zero Zone to facilitate, “Design Future London,” a design challenge by The Mayor of London in partnership with MOBIE.

Participants will work alongside design students to seek answers to the question: ’What do we want from future homes and communities in London?’

The way we live is rapidly changing and creating social, working, lifestyle, environmental and sustainability challenges.  The design criteria for future new homes and master planning the way we live and the communities we create must meet these and more challenges.

This group thinking and design workshop is asking you to work alongside future designers and creators of the homes for London to consider the issues and present some solutions to the housing challenges.

Attendees will work in small teams, with a brainstorm on what the group members think should be the key elements - what do Londoners want, using the supplied post-it notes, flip charts, paper, pens, etc. (Approx. 20 minutes).

Each team will have a member(s) of the MOBIE Community, and a recent design graduate to help direct and guide them through this session. The facilitators will prompt the students about the key recovery themes and think of the different users and their needs.

Following a short break, the groups will be challenged to turn their original ideas into something visual, either a house design, a plan or both.  Our volunteer architects and designers will be on hand to help each group with the sketching of their ideas if required. (40-45 minutes).

Back together, the groups will report and present their themes and designs. As well as students and tutors, industry attendees will be welcome to join a group, or form teams of their own to participate.

Combining clever, optimistic and imaginative design and the potential of fantastic new technologies, the homes of the future can be absolutely amazing. Hopefully this short challenge is an opportunity to begin thinking about re-shaping modern housing and show us the sort of home design that you might want for yourself and your future families.
