Marcus Weeks is acquisition and development manager for Unite Students - the largest student accommodation provider in the UK. Ahead of his session on "the future of student living" at HOMES UK on 27 November, we asked a few questions about changes in the sector and consumer expectations...
What are you speaking about at HOMES UK?
Student accommodation development.
How are Unite Students helping to shape the #futureofliving?
Students have become more like consumers than ever before. At its core, Unite is creating Homes for Success and the future of living plays a large part in this. Examples of this include the addition of more communal space that is not necessarily larger, but also tailored to the particular area where the accommodation is located.
What changes do you see happening in your sector in the next 12 months?
There will be far more focus on technology and how you can capture the needs of the customer. In terms of the wider investment market, we are likely to see further consolidation of the big players. There is likely to be even more competition for sites and opportunities as the student market has shown a lot of resilience to today’s market changes.
Why should people come and hear you speak at HOMES UK?
Unite are the largest PBSA developer and student accommodation operator in the UK and therefore at the forefront of the latest trends and planning policies.
Marcus will be speaking alongside Sam McMillan, Sanctuary Students and Jo Winchester, CBRE on “The future of student living” at HOMES UK on 27 November at 16:00-16:45 in ExCeL, London.
