Celebrating the climate action innovators and change makers
Sustainability is one of the core themes of HOMES UK in 2020, coming out top when we surveyed 250 landlords.
We are proud to announce two sector-wide initiatives that will spotlight innovative solutions and individuals in the sector that are tackling the climate emergency.
To celebrate those who are driving positive change in the sector, we are launching the Climate Champions Power List!
Individuals will be nominated for their achievements and innovations in tackling the climate emergency and an expert judging panel will determine who makes the cut.
The power list is a great opportunity to celebrate success and gain recognition from the wider sector. You and your colleagues could boost the profile of your initiatives and, crucially, inspire others to tackle climate change in their areas!
The closing date for entries is 15 October and the final list will be unveiled at HOMES UK on 1 December!
Judges already include:
With thanks to our sponsors Engie, LHC, Liberty Group and Wates and our supporters AECOM and BRE Group.
At HOMES UK’s sister event (Housing 2020: the Virtual Housing Festival), we hosted a climate change hackathon, bringing together people from across the housing sector to find solutions to address the climate emergency.
While a plethora of technology and solutions already exist to tackle climate change within new and existing homes, we asked hackers how to engage, educate and motivate the entire sector (including tenants and homeowners) to adopt a climate emergency approach to their decision making.
Hackers worked together in teams to innovate solutions in quick 2-hour bursts with 3 ideas being shortlisted by the end of the day:
Idea 1: Housing Associations will only accept net zero carbon section 106 properties derived from fabric design not eco bling
Idea 2: A residents’ assembly to co-design climate change policy with their social housing provider to advocate for funding for energy efficient retrofits which may be tied to safety upgrades.
Idea 3: A ’fabric first’ approach to retrofit, with organisations teaming up with local colleges to equip local people with retrofitting training and skills
After hundreds of votes from across the sector, the winning idea was idea 3 - congratulations to the team!
